Btw, in case you missed it, the latest reason not to vaccinate your child is that vaccines are made from aborted fetuses. The most excellent reasoning behind this is that once upon a time, the laboratory cell lines used in growing many vaccines were started from embryonic tissue that did, it is not denied, come from an aborted pregnancy. Decades ago. I can't even guess how many generations of cells have grown since then from the originally cultured cells. Hundreds? Thousands? But the important thing is that you not subject your child to the abomination of something that originally came from an abortion.

Just gonna say that there is a grossly uninformed irony to Mike Pence tweeting anything at all about "Cuba Libre!" in the context of Castro's death. Like, seriously? Read some history dude. I know the people living in Miami are also shouting it, and it is super ironic there, as well. But just because they are shouting it doesn't mean you have to shout it in an even more ironic manner because it's you. Not even gonna touch on Trump's ignorance and totally expected style and stupidity.

Inadvertently discovered a cartoon xmas tv special that is pretty funny, esp if you get all the jokes and references, visual and verbal. It's also definitely not politically correct, while still being diverse and inclusive. One example from the elf work song - Oh, we work work work work work work work, We work with great endurance. We never miss a day of work 'Cuz we don't have health insurance. or one of the many attempts to name the reindeer - There's Bambi and Rambo and Dopey and Doc, There's Scotty and Sulu, Uhura and Spock! #merrysnarkmas   P.S. The version on TV was slightly different from this one on youtube, but it's close enough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xu65BS8kKA0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xu65BS8kKA0

So, the election may have affected me more than I thought.

So, the election may have affected me more than I thought. I did not handle something terribly well, although it turned out ok. tl;dr I unthinkingly assertively called out some people for not waiting on people of color who had been patiently waiting in line with the rest of us (us= all white people) and were the next people in line. It was the wrong way to do it, it was a risky area in which to do it, and I just didn't think before I opened my mouth. Fortunately, the person behind me backed me up. I mean, I didn't say hey, why aren't you waiting on the non-white people, but I was, especially for me, very assertive about the fact that they were next and they'd been waiting and that was not cool. Plus, I really don't usually just mouth off without thinking and there was a, shall we say, distinct air of tension after I did that before the person behind me spoke up. Awkward and actually a little scary. I need to do the thinking first so when I act it's a little more...

The link to Angela Merkel's statements, written and spoken,  were fine examples of deutches diplomacy, teutonic tact, prussian politesse, even, and inspired the following with minor lyrical changes as noted. It's unlikely to be mere chance that brought this specific musical to mind. ... Bye-Bye, Mein Lieber Herr. Farewell, mein Lieber Herr. It was a fine affair, But now it's over. In re: Trump boycott - New Balance, a company that makes its shoes here in the US.

In re: Trump boycott - New Balance, a company that makes its shoes here in the US. It is listed on that spreadsheet of companies to boycott. Here're my concerns with this: Firstly, it seems like this got set off by one exec (ironically the communications person) carelessly assuming that talking about the TPP being bad and connecting that to Trump's policies post-election was a run of the mill sort of comment, particularly since both Sanders and Clinton had decided no on the TPP, as well. Plus I'm guessing that somewhere in his tiny executive brain there was some sort of it's ok, everything will be ok attempt at soothing the post election stress idea. He's not even the owner or president of the company or anything! Unfortunately, he said something positive about Trump and that's pretty much all that has to happen to explode part of the internet, now. Secondly, the other part of the internet that has been given carte blanche to be its ugly self immediately inserte...

While I endorse this idea in principle, I am concerned that it is not more detailed, documented, and precise.

While I endorse this idea in principle, I am concerned that it is not more detailed, documented, and precise. For one thing, you are making choices about whom you might be hurting versus helping. For another thing, large retailers will not notice if a handful of people generically boycott their stores at large. They will notice if people very specifically do not buy the precise products that are made by, marketed by, are associated with or carry the Trump name and contribute to Trump profits. Stores don't stock brands that don't sell. Finally, if you really want a complete Trump boycott list, you have to include every resort, hotel, condo, or other property or endeavor that is associated with the family. For example, the proposed luxury brand hotels called Scion, which is reportedly the Trump kids'. I have a specific example of my concerns about the brush being too broad and not sufficiently thoughtful which I'll post separately. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/boyc...

Oh, holy ....

Oh, holy .... Excuse me, how is it that the Clinton family is supposed to embody the archetype of the venal, corrupt, self-serving, nouveau riche, again? They're going to push giving Kushner top secret clearance. So he can punish people for convicting his father of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and witness tampering and then negotiating a cushy plea deal where he only spent a little over 1 year in jail. Bloody hell. There is not even honor among thieves. A former U.S. official with ties to the Trump team described the ousters of Rogers and others as a “bloodletting of anybody that associated in any way on the transition with Christie,” and said that the departures were engineered by two Trump loyalists who have taken control of who will get national security posts in the administration: retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Rogers had no prior significant ties to Christie but had been recruited to join the Trump team as an adviser by t...

Slept 7+ hours last night and still feel bleh.

Slept 7+ hours last night and still feel bleh. Of course, I am probably owed for a few not really sleeping nights. Meanwhile, definitely an upper respiratory virus. Again, so far just annoying enough to feel ill, not annoying enough to feel like dying. So that's probably the good thing. Knowing it will last a week or so anyway is not fun, though. Besides, cold medicine almost seems like overkill it's so low key, but I am uncomfortable enough I may try cold medicine anyway. #trustorybro

In addition to listening to the all chant, all the time gregorian chant radio station, I have been putting on the 1971 Willy Wonka to fall asleep to. It is all soothing balm and genuine escape. Tonight, I think I will choose a couple of the silliest Matt Smith Doctor Who episodes. Probably "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" and "The Beast Below", although I like "The Lodger" or "Closing Time" for this, as well.

My stomach can stop being upset any time, now.

My stomach can stop being upset any time, now. I mean, it has been ok intermittently, like, yesterday was fine. Plus, I'm pretty sure that the upper respiratory is not totally devoid of viral aspects. Nothing has blossomed into full blown misery, and I hope it will not, but, you know. I know I'm upset about the existential angst of our meaningless existence at present. My GI system does not need to be so vocal about its agreement.

Too late for #throwbackthursday but posting anyway. I don't know why I suddenly remembered this, although I'm pretty sure it has to do with Leonard Cohen and "Hallelujah". It has way too many meta touchstones, but still, it is that much more meaningful, if painful. Final chorus from Carissimi's oratorio Jepthe Translation of the words: Weep, children of Israel, weep, all ye virgins, and for Jephthah’s only daughter, lament with songs of sorrow. I find it cute that Trump supporters forgave or dismissed every horrible thing he said, but there's apparently a satirical ad campaign in LA (?) about any known Hollywood star who said they'd leave the US if Trump ran.  It's not about the stupidity of hyperbolic rhetoric, here, or the suggestion that if you say things like that that somebody might call you out. It's that Trump can grab women by the pussy with impunity, I guess because he apparently really means and does what he says, but you can't mock but let go of the people who shot their mouths off. To me this is worse hypocrisy and confirmation, yet again, of the nastiness that Trump and the GOP legitimized in this campaign. People always say stupid stuff, and people always call them out after. But even if I can't properly frame this, it is not the same. These people, in general, genuinely want anyone who does not agree with them out of "their" country. It's very reminiscent of Nazi Germany an...

Ok, so, usually I try to be more mature than this, but at this point I am not ok with sore losers winners. You are now trying to bully people who don't agree with you. Some of you are acting self-righteous about people you consider privileged bubble-dwellers. Well, you are not teaching the lesson you suppose you are. You are reinforcing the idea that you are small-minded and petty. You are wealthy and privileged and spoiled. You are exceedingly arrogant for someone who could be considered 'hispanic' under the equal opportunity laws I presume you despise, having at least one Puerto Rican grandparent. Obviously, the Italian part of your family somehow also miraculously avoided the stereotyping and prejudice Italian immigrants were subjected to, because you seem to have no empathy, whatsoever. Here's a newsflash, buster. You're a privileged bubble-dweller. I don't know what, in particular, you feel you know about the particular group you chose to call out, or why ...

Ok, I just had a small coronary.

Ok, I just had a small coronary. G+ forced it to the new and froze and I couldn't do anything. This is NOT the time to screw me over, g+!! My friends are keeping me sane! P.S. Read some of the help documentation while trying to fix the freeze and guess what? An awful lot of it sounds like code for 'we are not supporting apple products anymore'. If that's their game, it's been nice knowing all of you, because I can't currently afford to replace my every electronic device.

Donne seems apropos. Plus, this is, in fact, a somewhat hopeful if morose thought-piece. tl;dr the famous bit (but it all seems fitting to me) No man is an island,  entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. http://www.luminarium.org/sevenlit/donne/meditation17.php http://www.luminarium.org/sevenlit/donne/meditation17.php

Got some sleep. Good thing I have to move the car or I might skip eating, getting out of bed, etc. I know they talk about it being depressing when you lose a presidential election. If this is how a lot of us feel, I hope Sec'y Clinton has a good support network. I mean, I assume she does, but even having lost it is important that the first woman candidate for president be ok.

Decided to take a peek at some stuff about the protests. Which seem to be happening many places. At first I was like, well, ok, peaceably assembling, that's cool. Then I heard some of the interviews with and discussion of what info they were gathering on the various protests and what groups or individuals were there and why blah blah etc. reporting etc. Some people were reasonable and articulate and stating that no, we have no reason to believe Trump won't be exactly who he has always been. Then there was the info that at least part of the NYC protest was a semi-organized group of groups who were not only against Trump, but they were mad at Hillary and the Democrats because ... wanna poll? it has one answer and you are already trying not to punch the screen, here ... Bernie. He would have won! The Democrats failed us, Hillary failed us! Mm, yeah, no. At least some of you failed them, if you are now part of the binary conspiracy all of a sudden. In the spirit of where's waldo?, this was obviously taken very early in the evening, probably when one of the local races came in. P.S. Unbelievably, the town we live in, a huge bastion of money and GOP, went Clinton, which helped her take the whole county. Much good it did us, but the GOP locally was being insufferably smug. P.P.S. Oh, the waldo bit is visible in the preview pic if you don't want to click. P.P.P.S. So, yeah.

So, yeah. I went and looked because I hadn't been able to watch this live and I posted something else about a certain commentator and one of you mentioned something. So I looked. I stand by my statement that a choice was made by one person to behave with class, dignity, and to use their word, grace. The other person is the embodiment of Trump's id. Childish, bullying, whiny. The living embodiment of a sore winner. As noted by another, it is indeed bordering on greater than human capacity to have sat next to that thing and not physically reacted. http://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2016/11/09/corey-lewandowski-van-jones-hillary-clinton-speech-horrible-person-you-won-sot.cnn http://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2016/11/09/corey-lewandowski-van-jones-hillary-clinton-speech-horrible-person-you-won-sot.cnn

You know how when you're in a really bad place mentally or emotionally sometimes you get weird cravings? Depressed, sleep deprived, etc.  I went and looked up where there was a Burger King and went and got a Whopper. I don't know how many years it's been since I did that. I'll bet you're real surprised that it has not been a huge help to my low grade constant stomach upset since last night. Also, super dehydrated from the sodium content. #trustorybroproductions

I want to say that having made the decision to use my personal situation as an opportunity to fight against something I consider deeply terrible, that I feel content that I, uh, gave the last measure, or something. I don't. I really, really don't right now. They may not want to hear it, but there is a special place in hell for women who don't help each other. The more they keep convincing women that there is something wrong with them talking to each other, mentoring each other, helping each other, the more they get to keep us out of the places that men continue to control by talking to each other, mentoring each other, and helping each other.

Oh, also?

Oh, also? Fuck you all the people who wrote in a candidate, or refused to vote for President while voting for the rest of the tickets. No, really. You do not live in a country where we form coalition governments. It wasn't specifically legislated that way and we've almost always had third, fourth, fifth, etc. party candidates. However, it is the way that it is. You may not like realpolitik or whatever, but you just essentially voted for Trump. You knew going into it that that was the case and you did this anyway. At least have the courage of your convictions and just vote for Trump. And it's also bull to go on about it being all or nothing. Life isn't like that. That's what the Republicans, the Tea Party, and the Freedom Caucus do. Are you telling me you are pleased with the way they have been governing? You claim you want even more liberal policies, you want Bernie! and so forth, but you'd rather have people who will do the exact opposite of what you want than ...

Dear Populists

Dear Populists, Jackson was a lousy president. Congratulations, idiots. No love.

Oh, shit.

Oh, shit. They're gonna repeal the ACA. With nothing that helps people and everything that hands it all to the insurance companies. I swear there was something somewhere in the documents of the founding fathers that essentially said people were too stupid and uneducated to be allowed to govern themselves, hence the actually very limited voting rights in the original constitution. Of course, some of them also were into the idea of making education more widely available on the theory that it would, I don't know, educate people and make them better citizens? Augh.

One of the official Interns was talking to me as we watched these heinous returns and his comments ran something along the lines of I can't wait four years, I'll be out of college in four years, what am I supposed to do now? Yay!

Yay! Got my own personal diatribe about Christians blah blah blah that woman blah blah blah something wrong with this country blah blah blah how can you do this, etc. Yes, ma'am. Thank you for your time ma'am. Have a good day, ma'am. Disconnect. At least she didn't straight up tell me I was damned, or something. Fun times. Mostly, though, people were really polite today. We were calling PA. Some people had driven down there this am to do in person work. Some people also drove to Cleveland to help. Moar Canadians came to help with phone calls. Some of them were even giving rides to the polls. Now that's international cooperation. I avoided the incipient media by giving rides, although I suspect they will be swarming by this evening, when I shall return to base. I'm already tired, though. Also, Slack keeps crashing when I try to load it on my phone. I knew it might not love me, so I will probably miss all the fun after about 7pm when I head back to the trenches. ...

Other fun stories from the road.

Other fun stories from the road. Drove a quite elderly gentleman to the polls. Unsolicited, he said, "I have a daughter and two granddaughters. Who do you think I voted for?" Which is awesome. Of course, I was thinking so why didn't they make sure you had a ride to the polls?

Particularly in the context of one of your comments, poignant moments in voting:

Particularly in the context of one of your comments, poignant moments in voting: One of the people I gave a ride to vote said they were voting for themselves and their spouse because their spouse had just passed away. They had their registration with them so they could turn it in at the polling place and take them off the register. But they knew that even though they were just one vote, not two, that their spouse was there voting with them, so to speak. The person who died could have voted in an early voting state. Or Sweden. All about the pathos, I am. It really was touching, though, the person I was driving's voice kept cracking when they spoke and you could tell they just needed to process what was a pretty intense grieving thing. Apparently, both spouses were very invested in this election and being all active citizens and such like so this was really important to the survivor.

So tired.

So tired. Weird day. Apparently, the governor and many other Democratic office holders are barnstorming the state to support and encourage everyone to vote. So they were at the local Dem HQ this morning. While we'd been told yesterday that some people might be stopping by, nobody said they were going to have lights, camera, stage, sound, etc. I was one of the people who was there first thing in the morning so we were actually working when all these people were suddenly filling the street in front of the building. And then the music started. Anybody who doesn't know it's hard to make phone calls with the bass booming on the other side of the wall, raise your hand. So we gave up. The governor and crew passed through, said thanks for what you're doing, got pics with somebody's kid (because of course), then went into the big area next door with the improvised event space. Some of us figured it would be quieter once they turned the music off, so we started doing the phon...

TIL that it is legal for foreign nationals to volunteer in a political campaign so long as no money or monetary related activities of any kind are involved.  I looked it up. Because today a whole bunch of people came down from "the true north strong and free" to help make calls. Beauty, eh? P.S. They drove 2.5-3 hours each way to do this, you guys. That is more commitment than most of the people who could vote in the election. P.P.S. Yeah, yeah, foreign interference. This affects them too, and they don't get a vote. Today's phone calls to NC were, shall we say, not encouraging. However, I left campaign quarters cheered up because one of the interns who'd been in charge of the bus trip to PA I went on had been chatting with me about the World Serious on the ride back and knew I was all Cubs. So he came over and was all the Cubs won! Yay! I was thinking of you! So we spent a few minutes being all yay, Cubs! and that mitigated the sad phone calls.

I went and read some of the original source stuff on this and may I say I have never seen anything so deserving of the hashtag #backpfeifengesicht . First of all, any number of programs constantly flirt with or straight up violate the rules anyway. I can't deal with refuting the original thing, but let's just play with the quotes in the link. Item 1: "... the longer work hours ... would also improve medical training by giving young doctors more realistic experience." Of what? Extremely few practicing physicians work in an environment where they'd have to provide patient care for 16 hours straight, nevermind 24 or 28. What are they planning to do? Send us all into combat zones? I call excrement. You want realistic experience? Have them try to negotiate with an insurance company. Have them try to see 80 patients in one day while staying on schedule and not making any of them wait. Ok, that's for pros. How about 60? 50? FYI, 50 patients between 8am-5pm with no ...

ION, things have definitely changed.

ION, things have definitely changed. All of a sudden, we are spending a lot of time calling NC. They shifted the traveling from OH and PA to just PA already, but we were calling OH and PA, then added FL and then just PA and FL. Now it's all NC. Ask me about the NC calls sometime. That's an eye opener and no mistake.

So, uh, yeah.

So, uh, yeah. I would really like to respect people as individuals, and not collaterally smear them with a wide brush. However, I saw the televised Melania speech and I could not shake a sense that this was her Miss America Platform speech, and not in a sincere way. Like, no wonder she didn't have a career as a spokesmodel. Sincerity does not ooze from her pores. To her credit, she used longer words than her husband generally does. Plus, something immediately jarred my ear when she threw in that 'dream it, become it' business, but I couldn't place why. It just immediately made me think someone was cut and pasting again. Which, you know, if you credit the source is fine. Ha-ha, yeah. I finally realized that it sounded like one of those motivational posters. Wow.

Wow. I didn't know he was still around and I definitely didn't know he was an activist. Apparently, he's been out and about talking about Trump for quite some time and is doing campaigning in person, too. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/09/28/norman-lear-donald-trump-is-way-worse-than-archie-bunker.html http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/09/28/norman-lear-donald-trump-is-way-worse-than-archie-bunker.html
