Wait, BBCA is showing a series based on Dirk Gently?
Wait, BBCA is showing a series based on Dirk Gently?? I must watch this, even if it cannot possibly rise to the brilliance of Douglas Adams.

It's a Max Landis joint, and apparently quite bad.
ReplyDeleteI watched the first episode or two. It's... not really anything like the books at all (at least as far as I recall; it's been a while).
ReplyDeleteEven though I did quite enjoy Elijah Wood's character, despite his existence being completely non-canon, I think the rest of it is far too unlike the source material to please fans, and too weird and outre to catch on with a wider audience. Shame.
Well, bugger. Now I feel like it is not worth a watch. I was so excited, too.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think it's worth giving the first ep a watch. If you don't like that, though, don't bother with more.
ReplyDeleteIt's on my list of things to check out, now that I get BBC America.
ReplyDeleteWe've really been enjoying it. I think it kind starts out a bit disjointed, but it's Douglas Adams. It's supposed to be disjointed. The basic premise is the same level of "that's not possible" that Hitchicker's Guide has, just not about space, and they are kind of easing the audience into it, through Elijah Wood's very Arthur Dent character. It's a lot darker than HG, though and some people may not like that. Four episodes in (I think) they have cemented a nice ensemble and the plot is starting to come together, so I wouldn't write it off too early.
