Running thru Atlanta, my favorite airport. Much not. So much dislike.

Cute, but sad. Can;t imagine the mother was alive if the baby was alone.

I is back from family events week(end). Overall, good and well. Stress level blue, with occasional yellow, and one orange. Good highlights: Sister's getting honored for her ongoing work, niece graduating cum laude, making Dad's birthday apple pie, antiquarian book fair at U of M, seeing Maggie, Anne, Josh, and Stina. Tired, more from psychoemotio stuff than physical. I think I is becoming old irascible person.

Bad copyright laws indeed. David Bowie stole a piece of Canadian culture on Wednesday. As you’re probably aware, Chris Hadfield , back when he was the commander of the International Space Station, recorded an iconic version of Bowie’s 1969 song Space Oddity.... #copyrightlaw #davidbowie #chrishadfield http://www.vancouversun.com/entertainment/copyright+rules+killed+astronaut+Chris+Hadfield+Space+Oddity/9842445/story.html

Cat herding. To those of you who should have received phone calls from me this evening and have not, my apologies. I did make it to Ann Arbor, but there's been a lot of cat herding. AFAIK, I am still doing some time in Toledo on Thursday, and hoping to hang in Detroit the first 1/2 - 2/3 of Saturday. I should have a few more specifics tomorrow, so will call and set any definites up then with your kind selves. Cheers.
Great.

Great. My dad is feeling better (about which I hope to have details to post in future), and my mom is now letting down from the chronic crisis mode we've been in; and she's being horrible and labile to everyone. She thinks it's so terribly important for my dad to get counseling because he needs to "deal with things". Fine. Where's she going? No, no. She doesn't have time, and it doesn't change anything, anyway. [tl;dr] However, and this is a large but, there is something else I have discovered, about which I will try to be brief. My mom's brother, aka my uncle, last had contact with my mother through a lawyer many years ago in the aftermath of my grandmother's death. This was very bad. There were lawyers because my mom had to protect herself. Her life was threatened. It seems he resurfaced in the last 2-3 years. Homeless, ill, and impoverished. Fortunately (my opinion), he is in another part of the country. Apparently, my mother, when informed,...

In the ongoing recent coverage of things that should have been under control infectious disease-wise, 60 minutes had a segment on tonight about the children dying in Africa of rheumatic heart disease, a sequela of strep throat. http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/preview-emergency/ http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/preview-emergency

For the handful of you to whom this may apply: Looks like we will be in Ann Arbor 14th-20th. Currently, I will have a car during day on Thursday (10-3?), so seems like the day to visit Toledo. Saturday, I will not have a car, but still should be available from 9-3 or so. If it's possible, would be great to hit up the Detroiters. If there's a major change after we get there Wed evening, I will let people know. Very much hope to see as many of you as possible. Let me know. Tentative yay!

Just something to brighten your day (it's covered a number of places). Just add this to the list of things like measles and polio, which we still have the opportunity to completely eradicate. http://www.forbes.com/sites/melaniehaiken/2014/05/08/syphilis-making-a-big-comeback-among-men-warns-the-cdc/ http://www.forbes.com/sites/melaniehaiken/2014/05/08/syphilis-making-a-big-comeback-among-men-warns-the-cdc

An attempt at Reine de Saba. The torte itself worked very well, but the ganache coating got lots of annoying air bubbles in it. I haven't had that happen before, and while it's probably my fault, I am blaming the Guittard, which I had to use because I couldn't get Valrhona. The taste and texture were exactly what they were supposed to be, though, so I'll live. #whinywhinyprincess

Does anyone know what Verizon could possibly have told my mother that would inspire the absolute conviction that the router must be turned off every day? Since no physical connection points were installed, it is the only way to get internet access in the house, and she inevitably turns it off when I'm in the middle of something. I'm just not familiar with the idea of having to turn it off all the time.
I ... did not know this. Everybody picks on Newfoundland.
