So tired.
So tired. Weird day. Apparently, the governor and many other Democratic office holders are barnstorming the state to support and encourage everyone to vote. So they were at the local Dem HQ this morning.
While we'd been told yesterday that some people might be stopping by, nobody said they were going to have lights, camera, stage, sound, etc. I was one of the people who was there first thing in the morning so we were actually working when all these people were suddenly filling the street in front of the building. And then the music started. Anybody who doesn't know it's hard to make phone calls with the bass booming on the other side of the wall, raise your hand.
So we gave up. The governor and crew passed through, said thanks for what you're doing, got pics with somebody's kid (because of course), then went into the big area next door with the improvised event space. Some of us figured it would be quieter once they turned the music off, so we started doing the phone calls again, only to discover that they could turn up the speaking microphone really loud(ly). Then they decided the room wasn't crowded enough so we all had to go listen anyway. Woo, speechifyin'.
Best part? Some moderately older gentleman next to whom I ended up muttered under his breath when the gov invoked his father that he knew his father and he wasn't his father. Hah! Shades (and I do mean shade) of Lloyd Bentsen, lol.
Oh, wait. It gets better. We thought when all the nobs got done speaking everyone would leave and we could get back to the phones. Newp. Major news media. Jiminy Christmas, people. Go bug the candidates or something. Trapped like rats. They filmed us calling and somehow even had radio people get permission to record something even though I think they weren't supposed to record something? I don't even know. A bunch of us "regulars" got interviewed by one of the 2 major network news programs in Toronto. By their main anchor. Sort of like if Scott Pelley or somebody was interviewing you. Hopefully, they will use somebody else's clip.
All I can say is I hope you appreciate this Hillary and you better win! I had lights and a TV camera in my face and they miked me. AUGH! I mean, if I'd made a fuss they wouldn't have forced me, but I'm there to promote the brand, so, uncomfortable as it was, I figured I kind of had to suck it up. * shudder *
Then I spent the next 4 hours calling people in FL to tell them today was their last early voting day and go vote. 5.5 hours, of which 45 minutes were not spent calling people. I'se tired, y'all.
P.S. FL was nicer than NC. Nobody got yelled at about "voting for the devil" or "that heathen" or wevs. Seriously, somebody got someone that said the devil thing, and somebody got told off about voting for a heathen and some other choice comments on calls to NC. I mean, at least we were clear that they were not supporting Hillary. Good lord, people.

I appreciate the effort! It's kind of amazing the sheer numbers of "foot soldiers" that make up any reasonable-quality GOTV operation in a national election. I'm sure the candidates appreciate it, even though there's obviously no way in hell they can provide a personal "thank you" to everyone...
