Well, I only threatened to walk out of the funeral once. The proximate cause was my mother but it was really the toxic stew of my SIL’s bullshit and my mother’s codependency, etc. My sister summed it up as, “... the person whose calls you take? That’s the relationship you’re in.”
She (sister) told me later that had my mother gone any words more with what triggered my taking a stand, she was also about to leave. (It was not a threat from me. I was 2 literal seconds from walking out.)
We’ve decided that while empathy is over rated, my mother’s critical lack is empathy. It’s a major flaw.

I am also glad to hear that you made it through that obligation and I do so hope you can extricate yourself from all the toxicity you have been forced to face for so long. We are all thinking of your and we hope there will be some solace for you in the future.
