It would not have occurred to me that the United States was that integral to that much stuff around the world. Like, I just assumed that things like this were set up with multiple or even totally independent stakeholders.
This is another way in which the GOP of Trump is utterly destroying our existence in the world. Trump is an ignorant fool. The GOP, otoh, and it’s associated Conservative organizations is/are not. Making us unreliable and undesirable is not a winning strategy for our position of leadership in the world. Big things like military alliances and trade agreements are obvious, but ceding the little and critical stuff is hidden and utterly stupid.
The world is not sitting around waiting for us to wake the heck up and get it together. Even if some might give us a second chance there are always political and economic vultures looking for this sort of stupidity opportunity. Not to mention China and Russia.

I don't think the GOP powers-that-be planned on the sheer incompetence of GOP Pres. Trump. It was supposed to be Kasich, or Cruz, or Walker, or literally any other GOP puppet. Smart enough not to lie about things that can be proven on tape. Smart enough not to brag about shutting down the government. Etc.
ReplyDeleteAt this point - like so many other plutocrats who thought they could control their pet demagogues, only to find themselves with a rabid tiger on the loose - they're just hunkering down, holding on, and cutting 20 February 1933-style deals, hoping their billions will keep them safe.
Which - chances are they will! I mean, the Quandts and their billionaire colleagues did just fine after all that unpleasantness. A pity about the tens of millions of people who were killed, maimed, raped, etc. as a result of the little National Socialist thing, but you know, sometimes a business gamble goes wrong and some shit gets broken.
