No. Women kept getting told that meritocracy was the antidote. It was a way to shut people up and reinforce the idea that if you couldn't make it it wasn't because you were a woman, it was because you weren't good enough. Same thing for people of color, I'm sure. Just work hard(er)/enough.

Defined as “verbal and nonverbal behaviors that convey hostility, objectification, exclusion or second-class status,” it is far more common in science settings, the report said, than forms of harassment like sexual coercion or unwanted touching: less often a come-on than a put-down.
I mean, I guess I feel vindicated that a national report supports things I fought, like, always? Not to mention even other women telling me that nothing was going on, that nothing had happened to them - while it was happening to them or in front of them. Otoh, I'm still super angry that it was a "revelation". For a bunch of trained observers, talk about internalized bias.
