Credit where it is due. Mom was appropriate last night and has been trying to be most of today.

Of course, we also have a standing disagreement about whether it is "comfort care" to protect a neutropenic patient from infection. By washing your hands, cooking his food, washing dishes and silverware and so on. Nothing major but requires a bit of attention. She did agree that if I wanted to clean the kitchen and get paper plates to eliminate worrying about the dishes and such, that might be fine. I will never be able to get all the crap off the counters in the kitchen.

To be clear, it is possible, indeed probable, that my dad can rebound enough from the neutropenia now that he is not doing chemo for us to be able to stop doing that in even maybe a week. Granted, that means we have to be able to get him lab tests and I'm not sure how to do that, but I am adamant that we need to give him that support and opportunity. He's not frakking dead, yet, and we don't have to help him along. Especially, if it would add to his suffering.

I also put my foot down about my 4 year old nephew visiting while he's neutropenic. I'm sorry, but you might as well just poison him, right now. The hospice nurse backed me up.

My mom also somehow mixed up the warnings about us catching some crazy resistant hospital bug from my dad (there's a context which I will skip) with the far more probable him catching some normally meaningless, ordinary bug that at the present time could kill him. Guess which she was more worried about. >:(

(It's amazing how much they've simplified neutropenic care. The diet is so much more flexible, everybody doesn't automatically have to wear masks and gloves, although the gloves wouldn't hurt, and we aren't required to use special everything. It's really so much less restricted. Clearly, I have failed to impart why I think this is no big deal to my mom. Or, more properly, why I think it is worth the effort and she should suck it up and disarrange her life this one little bit more for a very short time.)
