I find it very disturbing that the killer whales I saw in BC may cease to exist in my lifetime. I know King (aka Chinook) salmon are a big deal to fishermen, and thus tourism, but if we need to ban catching and eating them to save this unique population, I don't think it's impossible to consider. There are other salmon to fish and eat, other things to attract tourism (although maybe not that spend that much money), and there are probably some populations of King up in Alaska that are not critical to an Orca population's survival.

There are a number of articles about this population prompted by the first birth in 3 years to a mom and the baby died, but the mom has kept carrying the body for days, trying to keep it above water where it could breathe.
