Latest fun in the insanity fun house - my mother, in her frequent mentions of my father's death, has apparently added a new spin. That is, she just doesn't know what she'll do if I am still living here when my father dies. Which she says to him, not to me.
This is amusing on many levels, not least of which is that when I was favored child, especially once I had an income level of which she approved, it was her stated intention that when she was old and alone, she was going to come and live with me and I would support and take care of her.
This has been a thing most of my adult life, long before there was any factual question of my dad's death. In fact, it was one of the ways she let my siblings know that even though she liked us all equally, she really liked me better (vomit).
She's really sick, and it continues to amaze me how none of us picked up on the less concentrated but consistently present earlier signs of it. Meanwhile, it messes with all of us on a constant basis.
P.S. There's good reason to think she would actually want to torpedo me leaving her, while hating having me here. If I leave, she can't control me, and she has to deal with her own garbage by herself. No minion, and no punching bag.
P.P.S. She says this stuff while actively doing everything she can to destroy my father mentally and emotionally and I think she is literally too cowardly to do anything directly to kill him, and yet she both does and does not want him dead. For example, she keeps pointing out that if he lives too long, he'll outlive his insurance policy. Which is not the only money she would have, nor would she lack enough to live on without it. But every time she says this, it is clearly a why don't you just die already so I can have my money statement.
We are all terrible people for not arranging the world to suit her.
