Catch up on Doctor Who.
Catch up on Doctor Who. Mostly not amused by the over-hyped weird red monk trilogy (not a spoiler as the previews and promos were all over the place for weeks before they aired). Seriously. I mean, there were isolated individuals or moments that were good, but that hardly makes one, let alone three episodes worth my time. Can I just watch clips of the good bits?
Empress of Mars - Thank you. Much more like a classic Doctor Who episode. Some people have complained that it was too superficial, but I think there have been some seriously bad episodes where the new Who tried to get all preachy and deep and full of itself and fell flat on its pompous, egotistical self. It's gotten worse over time, too. Another thank you for mostly picking on the British, this time, instead of another stupid American and/or Trump joke. Plus humor and lots of references to catch and a fairly awesome specific classic Who callback. Would watch again.
Eaters of Light - Might as well start with the thank you for picking on the British Isles, again. More to that, but would get spoilery. A little preachy on Issues. While that's not new to Who, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. The opinionizing here is tolerable if lacking all subtlety. The social commentary is a bit more interesting, although I suspect some people may quibble? Again, somewhat more like a different era of Who, although not as much as Empress. A bit wibbly wobbly handy wavey at the end. Would probably watch again.
Lastly, they are doing the stupid arc through the season thing, again. And at the moment it is mostly being done in a generally poor and disconnected way that makes me not at all interested and already prepared to say they could have done whatever episodes they are going to do without the pointless set-up. I mean, I might change my mind after I see them, but I have my doubts.
