This.

This. All of this. And yes, I've experienced it too. I've watched it happen to other women and then had them tell me it didn't happen. Try wrapping your head around that cognitive dissonance.

One thing, though. Even these women in this discussion keep trying to rationalize the 8-10% of people who seem to have said they liked Trump more after seeing/hearing that tape. This is not them being defiant or contrary. They really like him even more.

Somebody can psychoanalyze that somewhere else, but the important thing is that in order to have any hope of changing this at all, we have to know that there are horrible people who believe horrible things.

Trump is a role model, Trump is a hero. He gets p--! So, no. Painful as it is, those polls and surveys are probably right. He's their hero and they love him for making it possible for them to say what they really think and believe and want out of life. Because even if they aren't getting any, at least they can admire the guy who is. Because it's their god-given right as red-blooded American (or whatever) males.

This kind of culture isn't good for the people who believe this, either, but if there's ever a chance to change it, it's only going to work if we acknowledge that it's real.

  1. The only thing positive I feel I can hang my hat on at the moment is that between the killings by police and Trump that this is forcing people totaled a hard look at the reality of the country and culture, and will help push things in a better direction.

Then, I usually figure that right now most people are just doing a Kevin Bacon impersonation from the end of "Animal Hpus", and as soon as they can get this off the front page news it'll go back to the status quo.
