possible trigger warnings

possible trigger warnings

I heard this the other day when it was broadcast and it's very difficult and intense. I'm specifically talking about the main 30+ minute segment that starts about 9 or 10 minutes in. It's a woman telling her own story about experiencing her culture's practice of female genital mutilation. It's hard to listen to. She's right that people generally think it only happens in Africa; I did. She was born in Pakistan, grew up in Texas, ended up back in Pakistan. Is it condescending to call her courageous? I don't mean it to be, because I can't imagine what it takes to break a cultural taboo and survive all that. I found it very difficult to listen to, but I learned a lot and she needs to be heard.
