I am pro-refugee, from any country. But I can't find anything in this bill (at least the two summaries I have read) to rail against. It seems largely symbolic. Symbolic is what Congress does best so I am not surprised.
ReplyDeleteoh god i read a comment
ReplyDelete"It also would require the Homeland Security secretary, the director of the FBI and the Director of National Intelligence to personally sign off that each refugee isn’t a security threat."
ReplyDeleteYeah, and if that doesn't drastically reduce the number of refugees, nothing will short of ending the program entirely. And this almost has (in the House) veto-proof support.
Yes, that personal sign off bit was one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteSome of the rest isn't objectionable, but that one seems surface-reasonable until you remember the last time you dealt with three bureaucracies and tried to get an individual to take responsibility for anything.
ReplyDeleteThis is basically Congress saying, "We won't be accountable for any single thing, here."
