I know a lot of (all of?) you have quit the Dr. Who train long since due to the abysmal trend in awfulness. I though this season was finally starting to get better. Uneven, but a critically tiny bit better. I mean, I really liked the Hero of Rock Doctor. Why didn't they do something with that? Then I saw tonight's episode (Heaven Sent). I cannot even. An hour (well, with commercials) of utterly pointless, and likely expensive budget, stupidity.
It is so poorly done that the music was stupid. No, really. That was the worst match up of scoring and can I call it a story line? ever. If it's gotten to the point where I'm criticizing the music, it's pretty bad. Your derivative Beethoven would have been great if this was a sweeping drama with the scope of War and Peace. Spoilers: it's not.
Is this a spoiler? Don't care. In the category of theatrical devices to be used only with purpose and care, we have The Monologue. It is incredibly pointless and boring to listen to someone talk to themselves when this neither moves the plot forward, nor adds insight into the speaker or someone else's character (as in, the character they are playing). Just to make it worse, visually reference what might be the most famous character ever to monologue/soliloquize. Yes, we know you aren't as good a writer as that person. Oh, that wasn't the point you were trying to make?
What a waste of an episode. Kill the Moon is still worse, but at least that one had a giant, purple space ... butterfly? I'd rather watch that episode that was blatant PR for the London Olympics than this. Fear Her, was it? Anyway, this episode was stupid, pointless, and just plain dumb.
