Logics I do not get.

Logics I do not get. My mother arranged for my parents to go to dinner with some friends tonight. Originally, this was at someone's house, and I was invited.  It was changed to being at a restaurant, and I was uninvited. Except my mother forgot to tell me that until just now when I asked what time we were leaving.

Is it just my brain, or would it be more logical  for someone to have a reason to not include someone at their home (say, limited space), but include them in a larger public venue? Maybe my brain is inside out, but I don't get this one.
