The news is just full of positive learning experiences these days:

- That 19 kids family apparently has some issues that are making them less of a poster family for the politically hyper-conservative, it would seem. Although if the now adult had problems as an adolescent, I'm not sure how much of that is omg, horrible permanent evil person vs. how much does a severe upbringing potentially mess you up? He apparently "forcibly fondled" at least one and possibly more girls (as a minor) per a police report. So messed up.

- The ongoing crisis of Rohingya muslims in Myanmar/Burma. Which I knew a little about before this latest disaster because there's a large Burmese immigrant community here, so I had learned a little about the different regions and groups. However, it's a major mess, and has been for decades and possibly hundreds of years, depending on whose version of history and how you view it. Human beings are just going to keep killing each other off over stupid stuff aren't they?

- Hope somebody took lots of pictures of Palmyra. Is it justification for an international war to stop cultural and historical terrorism? I am so angry at hearing this lengthening list of destruction - the Buddhas in Afghanistan, the libraries in Timbuktu, the city of Nimrod, and now probably Palmyra.

  1. Yes, well, apparently oil revenues aren't enough. There's a lucrative trade in antiquities. The ones you don't destroy for the cameras. Hypocrites. It's idolatry! Worshipping money doesn't count!
