Necessity cooking:
1) large sirloin of the organic grass fed variety; because mom took it out to defrost yesterday morning before disaster struck and she could not cook it.
2) pumpkin celeriac pear blue cheese soup; because pumpkin was beginning to soften.
Longer explanations:
1) Mostly, that's pretty clear. Mom meant to make it for Dad, who felt like eating, but then Mom was incapacitated. It was already thawed, so I stuck it in some wine and spices overnight in the fridge. Cooked it and some baked potatoes tonight for Dad.
2) Someone had given me a pie pumpkin due to I like squash and I cook. We have cold storage in the basement, but sometimes have humidity issues so the pumpkin started to age a bit, therefore, it was eat it or watch it slowly shrivel and liquefy.
I like celeriac soup ever since I made it last winter. While looking for things to do with the pie pumpkin, came across soup recipes with various combinations of these four ingredients: pumpkin, celeriac, pear, and blue cheese. Not all four, though, so what the heck.
Things I learned - pie pumpkin is not as sweet as you might hope, how sweet pears are varies, I would use a sweet blue cheese next time, I cannot express enough love for immersion blenders.
