Dear Governor Cuomo

Dear Governor Cuomo,

You and Governor Christie may jump into the exact same lake. And that's the most polite thing I can think of to say. Additionally, I do not buy the kindly reporter's attempt to suggest you might have been "misinformed". You are not an idiot. Thanks for visiting and threatening the people trapped on the Thruway with legal action. Jerk.

No love,
Western New York

Shout outs to the Thruway director who said they should have closed the Thruway ahead of time, to the Erie County Executive who has helped coordinate a generally pretty impressive storm response and told the Governor uh, no with the ticketing and so forth; to the troopers, EMTs, nurses, volunteers, neighbors, and etc. for everything they are doing to help.

And definite kudos to the reporters who immediately jumped all over the ridiculous statements the Governor made about people driving around gates to illegally get on the Thruway, and a few other choice comments. Some of those people have been trapped since 12:30 am Tuesday and for many of them no one has even stopped by to see if they are ok. While it's understandable that some of them have been in areas that were exceptionally difficult to reach, they are in need of assistance, not stupid comments from the Governor.

Here's a newsflash. You cannot get around the gates if they are closed in those places where there are gates at the entrances to the Thruway. Where there are no gates, once the Thruway is closed, police or trooper cars are parked at the on ramps and, again, you cannot get on. I mean, you could drive around them, but really? Further, there were people who could not get off the Thruway, because there were accidents blocking the exit ramps, and reportedly at least one blocking the actual roadway. Where would you have suggested they go? Many of the people who got stuck were driving long distance, like the basketball team coming from Pittsburgh. They were already on the Thruway when the storm bands hit. If you've ever driven in this stuff, you know that it can go from unpleasant but driveable to uh, oh very fast. Some of the trucks were told to turn around and drive the other way at one exit, and then they weren't allowed off at the next exit by the town they were driving through (for good reason, but now what?). IOW, they got stuck between one exit and the next.

I'd like to say the Governor should apologize, but politicians these days only do that when they're caught having sex with societally unapproved partners, or sending potential societally unapproved partners societally unapproved pictures of themselves.

The only other dropping of balls that is of concern, is that when they were able to contact people stuck on the Thruway, they kept telling them that someone would be there with supplies, but no one ever came. They shouldn't have said they were coming if they weren't.

So there's that. Did I mention it's snowing again? It's snowing again.
