Sigh.
Sigh. I will still try to ramble about the public health issues, and the unutterable stupidity of how we are always reactive, not proactive, which is beyond incomprehensible, but we keep doing it throughout history (stupidstupidstupid), but why are individual people so stupid?
You have to be told, explicitly, that when you are under observation for exposure to a bad movie of the week disease not to travel across the country? Somebody who's better at cussing please help me out, here.
Apparently, protocols and procedures are going to have to include hand delivered engraved personal invitations to get a clue. I don't care if the CDC criminally screwed up. Use your own damn common sense. You knew enough to call them, stay off the damn plane.
And the common sense thing applies to answering phones at the CDC, as well. A person with ebola exposure is calling you because they have a fever and ASKING IF THEY CAN GET ON A TRANSCONTINENTAL PLANE. I don't care if it's below the omfg panic fever level. Think about what you'd want if your children were on that plane. Double flipping check with someone. Oh, well, if the chart said it was ok, well, then. I would be shocked if it says go to the most crowded place you can think of right away. Augh! The stupid! The people in charge know better! What the everloving fripping frakking GAH! headdeskheaddeskheaddesk ow

Just seen on Facebook: "Don't trust what the government tells you about Ebola, they have a patent on it.

...just when I think I've seen the worst of the depths of dumb.
Offs.
ReplyDeleteAmy Young That's not just dumb.
ReplyDeleteThat is certifiable, Grade-A, Emperor-Palpatine-just-retired-in-shame evil.
(It can also be dumb, of course, but then I've long believed in the evil of stupidity, so. I think Pratchett put it best in a conversation in Monstrous Regiment, but I can't look it up now.)
Zeynep Dilli There's evil at the root of it, but the branches are made entirely of dumb.
ReplyDelete...pretty much like most human endeavors, I suppose.
