Unsurprisingly to anyone, Chris Collins publicly admitted that he decided to run for his seat again after all so he and the right wing Trump Republicans can retain control of the seat. By implication, to prevent anyone who is less reactionary or, gods forbid, socialist, from doing horrible things to the country.

Iow, it's more important to cling desperately to power than to step aside and let people contest the seat. Because apparently all the other potential GOP candidates were inferior to Collins. Because the American system is not about the peaceful transfer of power based on input from the American voting public. Because Collins' district is in no way at all gerrymandered (in favor of GOP). Nope, totally not.

I swear if there was a Reichstag to burn down, these people would do it. Not that they aren't trying for metaphorical ones.
