Randomly heard interview on PBS with Nobel Prize Econ winner and was surprised to hear him say that even though there are people who think they did it all themselves in re: success, no matter what, they probably had both help from sources other than themselves and luck. He's probably not real popular with some of our political and economic elite.
In all fairness, this is the commonly held view outside of half the United States.
ReplyDeleteI think only crazy people and deeply uneducated people believe there actually is such a thing as an economic actor independent of influence from outside effect. Some rich folks who claim otherwise are lying to impress the crazy-and-uneducated clade, others are using it as shorthand for "knowing how to make good use of the help and luck ain't nothin'", and some are probably crazy and/or uneducated themselves.
ReplyDeleteMagnus Itland That was mentioned! If it's who I think F-L Silver is talking about.
