Not overfond of CNN morning news shows, but caught intelligent moment this morning. Apparently, a survey among Republicans was done and results are being dissected. One of the questions it asked was whether Christianity should be the official religion of the USA.

Aside from my immediate reaction to the fact that such a question was asked AT ALL, I was pleased to note the pointed observation that in addition to violating the US Constitution (Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;), the same people are all for getting rid of religious extremists in other countries. They don't seem to see themselves as such. How convenient. I'm wondering whose version of Christianity they think is going to win this hypothetical little game.

  1. According to what I saw, the poll found that women were more likely than men to hold that opinion. So...that's a thing.

  2. F-L Silver It's just another (tired) variation on "Well, it's different when I do it."

  3. I ... cannot even begin to comprehend women who do not understand that you cannot separate some things. Like being institutionally second class in every possible way in any version of any religion that considers itself the most appropriate form of government. (Yeah, yeah, once upon a neolithic time or some such there were a few religions around the world that had women in charge. These are not those.)

  4. I think they were trying to suggest not so much that it was internally inconsistent, but that it might be a little hypocritical. So, yeah.
