Went to a different farm - cute animals, fwiw - and their strawberry beds at least have raised beds and are mostly clear between the rows. Still weeds, although not 4 foot high ones. Meanwhile, asked if I could taste before I spent money to pick, and their berries, which looked perfect, tasted as sour as the other place's had. So I asked about it and was told that there hasn't been enough sun.
Not really sure about the specifics, exactly, because it's not like it's been raining a la PNW. In fact, it hasn't rained a whole lot, and it hasn't exactly been particularly overcast, either. What has happened is that it was colder, later and the season for strawberries is about 2 weeks late. Regardless, apparently the only berries are the ones that look good, taste horrid, and you might be able to make jam out of them, but otherwise forget it. They don't even taste like strawberries.
Feeling generally irritable, still.
