This is a sfinge. Deep fried, airy, crispy outside dough with ricotta and candied citrus peel. In this case with sprinkles and a cherry on top. Also called zeppole in various incarnations. Made specifically for St. Joseph’s Day, which is March 19th. This is from a local, family owned, old school Italian bakery. Happy St. Joseph’s Day!
