Today in Adventures with Mom, who has been a home owner for 30+ years - The Case of the Sweating Pipes.

Today in Adventures with Mom, who has been a home owner for 30+ years - The Case of the Sweating Pipes. I get up this morning and am regaled with Tales of a Plumbing Emergency in the basement. She has already called two companies and is thinking of calling a third if they don’t respond Right Away. Eventually, I get credible info and look and the pipes are sweating and dripping all across the basement ceiling. I say well it looks like the pipes are sweating, that’s odd. No no no! Disaster! Emergency! Ok, well we can ask the plumbers. An hour later she says something offhand about hearing water running in the basement. Upon querying it is not the creek that runs under the house that you can hear by the sump pump. No, this is something she heard and decided to dismiss over near the half bath. Except she’s sort of telling me now. So I go down and check and low and behold the toilet is running. It has probably been running for two days because that’s the last time someone likely used it. Well, I can definitely see why my mom and I are not on the same page on many things.

Well, I can definitely see why my mom and I are not on the same page on many things. She thinks “excessive thirst” is the same as “dry mouth” which, no. It wouldn’t even occur to me to equate them. One is drinking a lot or needing or wanting to drink a lot but your mouth feels perfectly moist and fine. The other is when your mouth feels constantly dry, stuck, woolly, like cardboard, etc. You might try sipping water or something because your mouth is dry, but you won’t be drinking ‘excessively’. And that is today’s insight into why my mom and I have communication issues. #csbp

It has been sufficiently warm that I could rake the last leaf fall today.

It has been sufficiently warm that I could rake the last leaf fall today. And so I did. Meanwhile, mom made sure I knew all the ways I could do it better. Then we had a "discussion" about why I didn't think it was a good idea to just pile them up against the house or the garage. That is, we have had mice and a rat (we saw the one, who knows what else is out there) and creating a habitat for them seemed to me to be ill-advised. Also, while this isn't as huge a problem as it is in some areas near here, mom had Lyme from an unidentified tick bite last year and ticks also like leaf litter (lay their eggs, hatch, etc.). Apparently, I was personally criticizing my mother for years of using leaves as mulch by saying it didn't seem like a good idea this year because of above reasons. Then she decided that the idea of my using a regular black plastic garbage bag to put them in the trash because they don't do a separate garden waste pick-up this time of year was an issu...
Gotta stop getting those flavored drinks. Too much sugar, not enough coffee. #csbp

My mother is truly gifted at the art of delaying leaving.

My mother is truly gifted at the art of delaying leaving. She can find dozens of ways to not leave and make herself late by an hour or more just so she is always in the middle of everything. OMG mother JUST LEAVE. #csbp

So I think I may have given myself peroneal tendonitis.

So I think I may have given myself peroneal tendonitis. This sucks. This is the wrong time of year to probably need one of those boots and it's my right foot so HELLO driving, much? I have a compression sleeve, which helps, but it's weirdly itchy when I wear it all day, so I guess maybe I should get new ones? Argh. Also playing with KT tape, which helps but haven't found exactly the right wrap, yet. Like, if I do both it helps a lot, but whine whine moan moan. Pain, burning, etc. Super uncomfy in most of my shoes so also not helpful in this weather. Sigh. Thanks for listening. #csbp

In which our hero writes a #csbp novella on head colds and soup: So, my head cold that had hung around for a while decided to get notably worse yesterday and I have been feeling, as Emily Blunt so notably states in The Devil wears Prada, like death warmed up. I have mostly not wanted to eat, even though I needed to if only because taking meds, and cough drops have sugar in them, etc. Also, sometimes it turns out you feel better if you eat. So (note use of classic transition phrase "so"), I have basically eaten nothing but Tom Yum yesterday and today. I have no idea why my stomach is ok with this, since it works on the sore throat and head cold because I eat it spicy (not Isan/Lao spicy, I do not have that kind of spicy-fu, but very spicy by 'Murrican standards). All that red chili, red chili oil, and red chili hot sauce, never mind the funky fish sauce part, should surely not be ok on a sick tummy. And yet this is literally the only thing I have eaten for two days and whe...
I hate gnats. I'm just glad they weren't clouds of mosquitoes or black flies or no-see-ums. #vagueposting #csbp

- locked -

- locked - Something I ate? Overeating through stress eating? Mild panic attack? Heat and humidity? Early hot flash? No idea, but very ill all night with bad nausea, bad reflux, feeling flushed, and slightly vertiginous. Also moderately rapid pulse, a lot of flatulence and bloating, and shallow breathing and a stuffed nose. Mild other GI issue. All of which could literally just be bad reflux. So I breathed into a paper bag, got a wet wash cloth and 2 ice packs, and a small garbage can just in case, and tried to distract myself with random television. Eventually able to lay down and finally sort of slept but not enough so although I am feeling able to stand up and only mildly nauseated, an exhausted. Took a cold shower, allegra and meclizine, and my body has decided it's wanting a little glucose - not food, just some sugar. If I start to feel a little better I may take something for the reflux, which is also much milder. I have a lot of things I have to do today and I am feeling lik...

Well, that was 2 hours of my life that were not useful.

Well, that was 2 hours of my life that were not useful. I got up early to spray and do some other yard work stuff and it was raining. Which is good. We're in a drought and we need it, but you can't do a lot of things when it is raining. Coincidentally, this morning was also when the temps were supposed to drop into the 70s. Which they did. Into the high 60s, in fact, so it would have been perfect weather to do stuff if it was still dry. Now, it's supposed to start getting humid overnight, which means even if it is not raining it will be wet all over everything. Sigh. Also hot, whence I will probably just have to suck it up. #csbp

So, I tried to fix my windshield today.

So, I tried to fix my windshield today. It kinda worked. It's really hard to get the resin into all the little fine cracks by the micro ding in the glass. You can only get so much vacuum with a syringe. #csbp

For various reasons, most of my physical activity is outside.

For various reasons, most of my physical activity is outside. This weather is seriously putting a crimp in that because I am not able to deal with being out much in the heat and humidity. Certainly not being all crazy active, and stuff. Not that I'm comfortable going to one, because people, but when I looked there are no gyms that allow you to do a short term membership thing. Not even the Y. I could do the old person walk in the mall thing, but the noise and the people are super uncomfortable. Basically, I'm a pita when I can't just go outside. This has been a #csbp

I have also had a headache that has continued to worsen throughout the day.

I have also had a headache that has continued to worsen throughout the day. I assume it is related to the weather front coming through/not coming through and/or the whole grass cutting endeavor, in spite of allergy pillages. Possibly aided and abetted by the not eating earlier. I have no idea. I just feel pain, along with some mild nausea, and inexplicable yawning tiredness. Of course, it could be a brain amoeba, but as bad as this is it isn't worst headache of your life, omg it's an aneurysm bad. Also fairly certain it's not a tumah. #csbp

Nature is cruel.

Nature is cruel. As you know, it is ridic hot & humid. But nearby lakes, aka inland seas, are 62 and 58 degrees - nice and cold - but the breeding insects are swarming on the shore and, oh, yeah, bad idea to be on a big old lake when the thunderstorms show up. Fine. Dangle your nice, cold water in front of us. Harumph. #csbp
Surprising no one, UPS is trash. They didn't used to be, but boy are they now. #csbp
I decided to use the being up anyway to go for a short walk this morning. #csbp

This is interesting.

This is interesting. She died almost exactly one month ago in mid-March (beware the ides). I don't really know, but I'm guessing best case scenario is you could pull together a special election in 2 months? Her district is mostly rural, though, outside of Rochester and its suburbs, so I don't know what effect that could have. Anyway, even if you could call and execute on that within 2 months, you wouldn't get anybody seated until June at the earliest in Washington. There's a regular election in November, so they might serve 6 months, in the middle of which is the summer recess for Congress. So 5 months. I mean, I guess that's a couple of months without representation. Is it worth the money it would cost? Oh, and as I type I'm remembering that New York has this petition process to get people on a ballot for office, which I don't know if the Governor can short circuit. If he could, though, why couldn't he just appoint someone? Which I'm guessing he...
I want comfort food. I do not want to make it but I don't know where to go to get it. #csbp

Went to the local crunchy granola grocery coop to pick something up and figured I could grab lunch, since they have prepared food and drink. Usually, that includes coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Well, no hot chocolate. Thus, I asked if they were out and the response was, "We only serve hot chocolate in the winter." I'm pretty sure there was a look on my face because the person immediately said, well, I mean, it's winter outside, but ... Personally, I'd be serving hot chocolate until the weather was consistently over 50 degrees as your daytime high. Not to mention that unless they only serve hot chocolate between the winter solstice and the spring equinox, I would really like to know what their official cutoff is. Because it's a small place. You have discretion. If it's flipping cold out and snowing , not to mention even if it's just a cold rain, Make Hot Chocolate. Debating whether I should ask them if they have a consistent cutoff date or it's up...

I really wish Starbucks had decent breakfast pastry.

I really wish Starbucks had decent breakfast pastry. They used to. You'd think they still would after subsuming and destroying La Boulange, but nope. Of course, the reason I wish this is because we do not have much in the way of good coffee places around here where you could go at a very early hour and just grab a continental-ish breakfast and briefly park your carcass. Lots of places to get a good full breakfast. Or fast food places. And we do have a not terrible bagel place if you want a bagel. #csbp
