Hm, google is eating my posts. Let's see if it eats this one.

So, I don't usually get all weird and baseball superstitious, but I couldn't help it last night.

So, I don't usually get all weird and baseball superstitious, but I couldn't help it last night. The Cubs lost when I posted a comment, so I decided that if I didn't post a comment of my own or on anybody else's thread about the game, they might win. It was really hard not to comment, you guys. BUT IT WORKED - THEY WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And then I was afraid it wasn't real, so I waited. See my awesome logic determine the World Series, woo. At least my superstition didn't involve not bathing or changing my socks, or something. Baseball superstition is weird, yo.

So I got a bunch of fresh chestnuts, because I like them and this is the time of year one does these things.

So I got a bunch of fresh chestnuts, because I like them and this is the time of year one does these things. Apparently, they have their very own form of weevil. Note the inclusion of the word 'evil'. I had them in a bag on the counter for two days prior to the whole roasting thing. Which, horrible though the result was, turns out to have been a good thing, because the nuts were infested. We found grubs crawling all over Halloween morning; they had hatched and eaten their way out of the nuts and the bag. Gross, but at least we hadn't tried to eat the nuts, which were full of eggs. I mean, if I had cooked them right away I would have found a lot of dead, roasted larvae inside when I peeled them. However, I think I would have been much more grossed out, really. Guess that's what happens when you buy them from a place that doesn't use nasty chemical sprays. Seemingly I have simply been fortunate in the past in not having encountered this? Yuck.

Welcome back, you horrifying disease complication that was considered quaint trivia in med school in the 90's.

Welcome back, you horrifying disease complication that was considered quaint trivia in med school in the 90's. My opinion on this is not equivocal: vaccinate against measles. It isn't only your child who may die years later because you didn't vaccinate them, it is other people's children who may have been too young or otherwise ill to receive the vaccine. SSPE is 100% fatal. NB: It used to be taught that SSPE occurred more frequently in males than females. I do not know if the new information on frequency of occurrence included data that may have updated that information, as well. http://www.chicagotribune.com/lifestyles/health/ct-measles-complication-more-common-than-thought-20161031-story.html http://www.chicagotribune.com/lifestyles/health/ct-measles-complication-more-common-than-thought-20161031-story.html
