Maybe odd question for all and sundry who might know. My sister and I have voice mail messages from our dad we hadn't deleted from our phones and we'd like to save them more permanently. Is there a way to do that?

  1. I suspect you will have to contact your carrier. They may be able to send it to you in a savable format? The lowtech way would be to play it off your phone while some other recording device was on, then save that audio file? Just brainstorming.

  2. I would think the cell company could send them to you as MP3s or something similar, but I don't know for sure.

  3. Short version: it depends but it will be difficult.

Because of the different laws in different states you can no longer record what you hear on the phone with an app. The only way to do this without bootleg apps is to play the message on speaker and record it with a different device.

  4. I haven't tried it, but I feel like you could install a call recording app on your phone and then record a call between you and your voicemail system that plays the voicemail you want to keep.

  5. Matt Schaefer this used to be the case, but I don't think is an option anymore. That was my understanding when my dad died as we couldn't record the things he left :(
