I may be severely on edge. I hope I make it through the day without exploding. #statingtheobvious

  2. It sounds corny as hell, but there were a lot of times after Harvey when I actually used the Kimmy Schmidt 10 seconds mindset and it helped a lot.

Break all the bits of horrible into as small a chunk as you need to get through and just worry about getting through each one. It also helped to think of something I could look forward to, just for me, that would happen if I could make it through that next chunk - a good cup of coffee, a nice warm bath, or just sitting down in a chair for 5 minutes and closing your eyes, whatever I needed to focus on to get through those next 10 seconds without it seeming like they never end.

When things were unbearable, knowing something - anything - was coming after helped me a lot. If it helps you, great, but feel free to ignore if it doesn't. Just know we are thinking about you.

  3. I watched Kimmy Schmidt during the Hell Times with my son and bawled buckets when she mentioned the 'next 10 seconds' rule. I felt seen.

  4. Here's another one, if it helps at all to entertain your way through this:

There was a song on my husband's playlist that we listened to while we were cleaning out the house. It's from the main title sequence of an old western called The Ballad of Cable Hogue. I'm not sure if this helps explain the meaning behind the song, but while it's playing, the main character is wandering through the desert, having a frank, but humorously polite talk to God about finding some water. I'll try to link to the song, which is both upbeat and kind of plodding, just like the scene in the movie, but listening to the lyrics at the time was kind of empowering.

_Tomorrow is the song I sing
    Yesterday don't mean a thing
I'll make today my next day's dawn
And I'll still be here grinning
    When the sun goes down

I'll get through this day first
    It's not the worst
    I don't care
    I'll be there
To put the sun to bed

Tomorrow is the song I sing
    Tomorrow ragmen can be kings
The smile I wear will be my crown
And I'll be lighting up a lifetime when the sun goes down

Tomorrow is the song I sing
    Tomorrow ragmen can be kings
‚Cause sometimes kings may ragmen be
If it can happen to a king, it can happen to me

I'll get through this day first
    It's not the worst
    I don't care
I'll be there to put the sun to bed

Tomorrow's still the song I sing
    Good or bad,
    Whatever it brings
    Got no choice,
    Greet the day
    And whatever decides old fate,
    I'll make fate pay

Tomorrow is the song I sing
    Tomorrow ragmen can be kings
The smile I wear will be my crown
And I'll be lighting up a lifetime when the sun goes down

If I don't make it through
    It's up to you
    To do your share
And be there to put the sun to bed

Tomorrow will be the song you sing
    Yesterday won't mean a thing
Make today your next days dawn
And you're still be here grinning when today's all done.
