The GOP house members (except 8 of them) voted not to reopen the IRS, among other things today. I am not impressed with their coalition solidarity.

How do they expect to collect the money that pays for their salaries and benefits? Or do they figure nobody is going to start repeating the fact that they keep getting paid by law, but can screw over the rest of the country, including the law enforcement, security personnel, and military, none of whom are getting paid but most of whom are expected to keep working for free. You know, the people they like to use for their propaganda but clearly care very little about when it comes to practical things like paying their mortgage or feeding their kids. I guess the honor of serving their communities and country will feed them and keep them warm.

  1. The TSA agents and ATC personnel at one airport like AT LEAST should refuse to work for 1 hour. The ripple effects might just cause enough issues to slap some people in the face.

And I am so sick of the administration and McConnell saying the Ds have to give in. They don't have all their members on board or this would have been a non issue last year.

  2. They’re full of it anyway because the House sent them the thing they passed and now they won’t pass it. Any other administration/timeline the universe would be screaming bullshit and they’d be forced back to the table to negotiate in good faith.

  3. Most of them should be updating resumes and any business short of staff should be specifically targeting them with job offers.

Speaking of which: it’s tradition that post shutdown the employees get back pay. What happens if you resign during the shutdown? And what happens if you simply don’t resign, but also don’t do the work that you’re “expected” to do without pay?
