In the category of things that did not suck that happened over the last week and a half, my sister got a grant.
She works in the non profit sector and had been trying for a while to grow the program/institution she is in charge of. She kept getting turned down for reasons those of you in the arena of grants would find familiar. To wit, since you haven’t had one that big you can’t get one. The usual catch 22.
She built coalitions, she networked, she rewrote per feedback, she dealt with the insane politics. She reapplied and resubmitted. Two years of this. BUT in the end she got a grant! Now she just has to worry about building the program the grant was for. A much better problem to have.

ReplyDeleteThat is such a good feeling! We have a big bell mounted on a wall at work to ring when we get big donations. I prefer the feeling of depositing the check, but others at work prefer the bell :-)
