Entertaining moments from when somebody tries to bring up politics over Thanksgiving:
SIL: (completely out of the blue at breakfast at hotel) SO, what do you think of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?!
My mom: Who? (Because this came completely out of nowhere.)
SIL: ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ, OMG!!! (insert her eyeroll #1)
My mom: Oh, well, the couple of times I've heard her she seems very well spoken.
SIL: HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW WHO SHE IS?!?! Isn't she your Representative?!?!?!!!!! (insert her ever bigger eyeroll #2, complete with her making faces)
Me: Uh, no. Her district is in NYC, like, the Bronx and Queens. Our district is parts of Erie and Niagara counties, so, like, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, parts of Amherst. It's a totally different part of the state.
SIL: Oh.
...... no carrier ......
