In case there was any possibility of not considering Lindsey Graham absolute trash.
In case there was any possibility of not considering Lindsey Graham absolute trash. Even Justin Amash has a better grasp of actual constitutional law and precedent.
Besides, what are they going to do? Try a new version of the Nuremberg Laws? How many generations back do you have to go to prove your ancestors were "legal" immigrants? Since no one descended from slaves ever legally immigrated, I guess none of them are citizens? Or does legally imported count? Are we gonna go for one drop of illegal immigrant blood?
Let me guess, neither Graham nor Trump nor Miller nor any other idiot realizes there are families in places like New Mexico and Texas that have lived there longer than the USA has existed. More to the point, they ended up in the US when it created states with borders with Mexico and therefore never immigrated to the US. The US absorbed them. They've been here longer than any of Graham's ancestors, never mind Trump's or Miller's, etc. What rhetorical garbage are they going to try to pull to fix that, I wonder?

The last bastion of Lindsey Graham's sanity was buried in John McCain's coffin.
ReplyDeleteIt's ridiculous, but it really does seem like there was some sense of "oh god, McCain will give me so much shit for this" that was keeping Graham a little bit grounded.
ReplyDeleteNone of that really matters in regards to this. It doesn’t matter that the Constitution can’t just be revised by an EO; it just matters that immigrants who try to come to the US believe it’s true.
ReplyDeleteIt would make those who are tired & cold, rich & poor, stop coming here for “anchor babies”.
In reality, it would probably curtail the Chinese birth tourism boom. However that “scary” Central American migrant caravan are coming here for asylum and help. None of this mishegas would change that.
For the record, I've never forgiven Graham for his bullshit, "I wouldn't let Congress leave town until we fix this. I would literally use the military to keep them in if I had to. We're not leaving town until we restore these defense cuts. We are not leaving town until we restore the intel cuts," statement back in 2015.
ReplyDeleteGraham has been at best a dark shade of grey with unpredictable mixtures at random moments of something better. And I've always been curious how much of that was McCain's influence (who himself could be described in much the same way, with the argument being over the exact shades of grey.)
But since McCain's death, damn if it doesn't seem like the answer isn't, "A lot."
