Do you ever get the feeling you are constantly having to rescue and take responsibility for other people and this may be impinging on your ability to live your own freaking life? Asking for a friend.
(Do not even with the oh, that's so easy, just take care of yourself first type of comments. My friend will hurt you.)

Yes. It does impinge on your life. And circumstances can definitely mean you can't necessarily take care of yourself first.

Tell your friend I hope the people they are constantly having to rescue step on a Lego.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t use to feel like that, a few years ago (though others external to the situation thought it was the case), but I’ve definitely been feeling exactly that lately. And yes, self care is great and all, but it turns out that there’s basically always a balance to be struck between the two. Some things that would happen or have to happen if you put yourself first second and third and only then cared about others are just non-negotiable — I still wouldn’t be able to live with myself.
ReplyDeleteThis is what happens when none of your options is particularly awesome.
Lego caltrops, lol.
