It's not that they can't, it's that they don't. The only reason the same problem doesn't exist for Jews is that when the Diaspora began we basically calculated things out through the year 6000.
ReplyDelete6000 in the Hebrew calendar; roughly 2250 A.D. I also suspect some people have started calculating the next couple thousand years.
(Well, that and we have a nineteen-year leap month cycle to keep seasonal holidays lined up, and trying to do that under Diaspora conditions was a hard no.)
