I accidentally some of the North Korea propo video. A clip was on a news channel as I flipped past. But it caught my ear because what the heck was that music in the background? No way! So I actually went and skimmed the thing. It's amazingly long. Anyway, there's probably a lot of stuff I missed, but some of this was just head-scratchingly incongruous. And hysterically funny.

A few samples of music in the background:

Love is Blue. Eurovision 1967, folks!

Red River Valley, on harpsichord, among other things. It gets used for quite a while. This is what caught my attention in the clip I heard.

A Hooked on Classics version of Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in g minor. You'd all recognize it if you heard it. It's the Hooked on Classics treatment that cracks me up.

TIL that some languages apparently have words inherently differentiating one's status as a citizen or resident of the entity versus a member of a particular ethnic or cultural group? I don't quite grasp the whole thing, although I heard the point being made. What's interesting to me is a) that there is such a thing, which seems very revealing of something about a culture that would need such concepts built into the language, and b) that there seem to be people who think it's inaccurate to interpret the word choice as meaningful. Firstly, since languages have all sorts of concepts built into them, many very specific to their primary culture of use, it seems reasonable that such a thing could exist. Not that I would have thought of it before, since I'm not from a culture where that sort of subtlety functions. Good News:

Good News: 1. Thruway is open between Buffalo and Rochester. 2. You can get on it going from Buffalo south to Pennsylvania, but you cannot get off of it between Buffalo and Pennsylvania. 3. Almost all the other major highways are open. 4. This is important, because with no highways open, there was no way to truck in food for the grocery stores, or gas for the cars and snow removal equipment and generators, etc. Yes, some places were starting to run low. (Yeah, they removed all the refineries and terminals years ago. Which is why our gas is still well above $3/gal. The closest place we get it from is Akron, OH. Wtf, government. P.S. Good plan! That whole section of I-90 runs along the eastern side of Lake Erie. FYI, that would be the part where they get Lake Effect snow. All winter, every winter. Good strategic planning.) Bad News: 1.
