Apparently, we have now acquired these bastards. My mom has lilies everywhere. She is about to have had lilies everywhere. I am going to try neem oil and she is trying to pick them off by hand. They are supposed to be susceptible to neonicotinoids, but those kill bees. As an aside, I find that interesting because these monsters will eat tobacco plants, which use nicotine as a natural defense. There isn't much else you can do unless you want to start poisoning the crud out of everything in sight. #invasivespecies

ReplyDeleteI sprayed the roses and cherry tree with neem oil to get rid of the Japanese beetles yesterday - I have now confirmed that I’m allergic to neem oil. I tried to stay upwind, but it wasn’t enough.
ReplyDeleteCrap. It is great stuff, but yeah, it mists and if you are allergic, that's not gonna go well. Is insecticidal soap (the potassium salt of fatty acid soap, not dish soap) an option for you? Granted, it kills many insects and I'm not sure the pros and cons about that, but it is also supposed to help with Japanese beetles.
