I wonder if the court could have pressured the husband's family into taking money. This sounds like they had a choice and the court just went oh, ok, whatever. I'd also like to know what Islamic law says about forced marriage and rape, because this isn't clear whether it is simply cultural to force marriages and rape is allowed. (This says that these courts use Islamic law. It doesn't say whether that's the only law, or whether it's a particular interpretation of that law.)
