The obvious comment here is obvious.

The obvious comment here is obvious.

I have no doubt whatsoever that far more offensive and threatening things are said directly and indirectly to government officials and their staffs, elected and unelected, multiple times a day, every single day, everywhere from the tiniest hamlet on up the White House itself. Heck, try being a customer service rep of any type, or a waitress, or basically anyone who has to interact with the public. You are not so special, delicate staffer flower.

In light of which, this was 100% some officious twit thinking I'll show that under-age whippersnapper what happens when you challenge the authority of your betters!

"You owe this student a public apology for retaliating against him by enlisting the school to punish him on your behalf."

They absolutely enlisted the school and were hoping something would happen. It's totally unnecessary for them to have called anyone, but if they were going to, why didn't they call his parents? Oh, right, because maybe having his parents punish him isn't nearly as bad as if the school does. Consequences!

But his congressional staffer also should be allowed to exercise his free-speech rights to report the student's language, he said.

I'm pretty sure this does not necessarily fall under the heading of free speech, per se, but, again, free speech is not speech devoid of responsibility. The staffer deliberately chose to call the school to make a point. What they didn't expect was any push back.

"We did not retaliate -- we reported what the guy did," he said. "We did not ask for discipline or anything like that."

Give me a break. If you thought nothing was going to happen, why did you bother to call? You wanted something to happen, you were tired of getting harangued by kids, you reported him as if he was a threat or a danger, if only a verbal one, that needed some control. Will no one rid me of this meddlesome teen?

  1. It's also part of the pretense of "family values", and that's been indoctrinated and propagandized to multiple generations since Reagan. Fortunately, Millennials seem less affected by it.

  2. The basic credo of the Baby Boomers: "It's okay for me to do, but if you do it I'll slap the shit out of you."

And Amodei is straight-up lying when he said he and his staff weren't retaliating. No one with a functioning brain believes that.

  3. “Get off their fucking asses” is called swearing now?

What the fuck, over. That is some fucking bullshit, man.
