I mean, we could always just dig up the old Nazi census methods. Those worked really well. Because this administration only wants that question for reasons that are not hyperbolically linked to the mentality typical of regimes like the Nazis, Stalin, and other famous purges.

Not that we haven't had some special moments of our own, coincidentally around that same period of history (rounding up Japanese Americans and putting them into camps, various "repatriations" of Mexican Americans, not to mention the charmingly named Operation Wetback of the 1950s).
