Not even gonna link any of the expanding pool of comments and articles. Mikaela Shiffrin didn't win slalom gold, she didn't even medal. She got 4th place. Sucks to be fourth best in the world. Let's dump on her.
She's got 2 gold medals, one from 2014, and one from yesterday in giant slalom. YESTERDAY. Maybe it was nerves, maybe it's a virus (she barfed right before skiing, I guess). Who cares? What's the difference? She's still 3 time world champ and has 2 olympic gold medals.
It occurs to me our narrative around sports might just be a bit skewed, fickle, and full of crap, at times. I'm still gonna think I couldn't do that and she's fscking amazing.
