I'm not sure when the billboard was painted.
I'm not sure when the billboard was painted. And no, in case it needs saying, I don't think 'kill the anything' is the right approach. Well, spiders, bedbugs, house centipedes - but in general, not.
Meanwhile, the NRA's response was anything but mature or thoughtful. Or de-escalating. Nope. Their response was:
Here’s an image from Kentucky, this morning. To all American gun owners, this is a wakeup call. They’re coming after us. Like and share to spread the word.
Their response tells you all you need to know about the NRA. They are looking for a fight. They want one, although they will always look for a way to claim somebody else started it. They're arms merchants and they benefit most from a fight in which they are arming both sides.
As noted, iirc, by one of the people now protesting from Parkland, the Second Amendment is not a license to kill. It's been thoroughly perverted, and that needs to be corrected asap.

The NRA doesn't need to arm "both sides". It's doing just fine having and continuing to encourage it's side to arm heavily. Which makes for a somewhat interesting problem, when their side has all the killing power and our side largely does not.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, with regards to any attempt at gun safety regulation that would involve taking military grade firearms away from the hundreds of thousands of "superowners" who have stockpiled dozens of arms each:
You and what army?
This is the terminal problem we Americans face, as you allude to above. The gun owners are heavily armed and willing to kill to defend their ability to kill. How precisely were you going to get them to do anything they don't agree to? Which army did you intend to use for the purpose?
The solution, like so many other problems America faces, is don't let it get this fucked in the first place. Once you let something like this metastasize to the extent it has, I really don't know how you "solve" it, any more than you "solve" widely metastatic sarcoma.
