Apparently, it's really hard to say, "I'm sorry." Also, it seems like institutional abuse of children was rampant through the 50's, 60's, etc., especially in places that claimed they had any sort of religious inspiration or association.
P.S. Saying people weren't trained to deal with children is BS. Most people aren't trained. Somehow, they manage not to be abusive horrors.
P.P.S. One can find many abusers who selectively abuse some people and not others. One can also find lots of abuse victims who will say nice things about their abusers. It's part of what happens. That doesn't make them nice people who should have buildings named after them.
