Ok. First of all, he was treated for laetrile poisoning. Yeah, it's presumptively cyanide poisoning but that isn't what he ingested. Spare us the clickbait. If they were really sure he'd gone full on to cyanide, there are other, nastier treatments they'd have had to use. I think they'd have kept him as an inpatient, as well.
What the hell is "vitamin B17"?!? FYI - it's crap from, like, the 1970's or something about curing and preventing cancer and IT'S NOT A VITAMIN. When you cook with apricot pits, you only use a little bit. When you use oil of bitter almond, aka almond extract, which comes from apricot pits, you are using a diluted substance in small amounts. There's only a little of it in amaretti and so forth.
Also? It's a relative of the almond! They're so close, there are commercial hybrids of apricot and almond trees that grow apricots with almonds as the pits. If your friend is allergic to almonds, HE WILL BE ALLERGIC TO THESE.
I ... just ... AUGH!!! Do not eat raw apricot pits. Do not pound a bagful of them.
And I agree that an offhand remark buried in paragraphs of randomness that, "Health Canada warns that eating too many apricot kernels may cause acute cyanide poisoning." is hardly an appropriate warning on a supposed bag of snack food. Good grief, people.
