Fact based rant - incoming.

Know what's wrong with Whitecloaks and zealots? Their absolute certainty in themselves and their cause. And their total lack of insight, compassion, or empathy.

I'm not getting into a fight on here, hence the locking, but in case a certain someone would like some actual information, psych as a specialty has one of the lowest reported burnout rates. Further, when oncologists do get burned out, it is among the most severe cases.

Insofar as causes of burnout, "compassion fatigue", iow having to deal with death/loss and so on is one of the least significant. Meaning all that nonsense about dealing with dead and dying patients is not a significant contributor, so don't pat yourself on the back just yet.

In addition, burnout rates continue to increase across all specialties. All of them.

Lastly, speaking of people who don't recognize their own privilege, the rate of burnout is significantly higher among women, across the board, consistently, over time.

Do what you have to to protect yourself. If a fantasy about being a paladin is what works for you, that's fine. Just don't use it as an excuse to directly or implicitly (and wrongly) dump all over your colleagues. You are not better than anyone else, and facepunchable behavior fixes no problems. It makes them worse or at least makes you a defender of the status quo.

P.S. If you're gonna refer to stuff, make sure you get the science right.

Ok. I'm done for now.

  1. There's a (number of) reason I turned off notification on his posts. I'm getting closer and closer to not reading them at all.
