Corollary to that other NPR piece, some basic info on going out in the wilderness. I note that he did not say you should not go alone, which is something I was taught, but mostly yeah.
On his other points:
- Make sure your flashlight or headlamp has batteries that work.
- I'd specify hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and proper sunglasses in that prepare for where you're going list.
- I'd add that proper socks in your proper footwear are a big one, as well.
- Finally, I'd add bring any critical medications you need either in an emergency or on a daily basis. You may need them if you get stuck somewhere.
