Yeah.
Yeah. Because prosecuting Hilary Clinton is the most important thing we need to do to make America great again. It'll totally solve all our problems.

On the other hand, any time and resources Trump's regime wastes going after Sec. Clinton, is time and resources his regime isn't spending going after a target that actually matters. Like suppressing and silencing leakers. Or ordering the IRS to go after journalists and activists and burying them under audits. Or compromising leaders who might successfully inspire swing voters to come out and vote to drive back the GOP. GOP Pres. Trump would be better served working to compromise and neutralize Sen. Sanders, Warren, Harris, etc. Not wasting his time on a political figure no longer relevant.
ReplyDeleteA competent autocrat doesn't waste his or his regime's efforts going after people who no longer matter. Fortunately for us, GOP Pres. Trump does not appear to be particularly competent...
No good will come of this.
ReplyDeleteNone whatsoever.
And speaking of competence, what the hell is GOP Pres. Trump doing attacking AG Sessions, who probably knows enough to burn everything and everyone down?
ReplyDeleteThe whole reason AG Sessions recused himself is because he is ankle deep - head-first - in the whole Russia mess. Ya don't think maybe Mueller might be real interested in what Sessions might have to say?
I'm pretty sure somewhere in The Book it says something about not doing humiliation conga on the guy whose testimony can bring down your regime.
Sadly, no. If they really did this, it would be what is has been and continues to be - a useful false rallying point for the idiots in the GOP and the voters who follow them. We are a long way away from Goebbels spending money on a movie, not the war effort (I read somewhere that some people theorize that he spent so much making his Titanic, that it actually impacted the budget for the war).
ReplyDeleteF-L Silver I'm not sure I agree. A politically effective prosecution takes a lot of resources - many of the most important being intangible. For example, there's only a finite amount of media "bandwidth", and the more you divide your message regarding who the enemy is, the less effective you become. There's no point in pursuing a political prosecution if you don't follow up with messaging and surrogates.
ReplyDeleteEven on an investigator basis - given how slow the Trump regime has been in actually filling leadership positions, and how much the regime keeps flipping the bird to its own internal security troops and even to its own hand-picked leaders, I think the Trump regime is a lot more short on trustworthy, loyal "plumbers" than usual.
And while there is certainly still some mileage to Clinton bashing in terms of rallying the GOP base, it's a diminishing utility that's not going to help the regime fend off the Democratic leaders who (hopefully and damn well better) arise to inspire and rally swing voters to come back. The right kind of progressive leader can rally back those key voters - even many who voted for Trump. It is entirely possible for people to still hate Clinton but like the next Democratic standard bearer. In fact, if the next Democratic standard-bearer is themselves saying they're the "anti-Clinton", continuing to tar and feather Sec. Clinton could even backfire.
I think that the Trump administration's resources for an effective political prosecution are much more limited than you. And I think the more of those resources the Trump regime dedicates to someone who isn't even going to ever be a national leader ever again, the less there are available for targeting the political leaders who will (hopefully and damn well better) emerge to successfully rally the enthusiasm and support we've lost.
