I don't know if you guys can see this - let me know if you can't and I"ll link it some other way.

Also, most of the comments have some sense or validity. The only one that I am not ok with is the one where the nurse basically berates patients for needing healthcare. It's just not that easy, folks, but I am very familiar with this sort of perspective.

Are you kidding? Bcbs of Michigan has an independent 3rd party that scrutinizes your case to judge whether someone actually needs mental health care. They looked at pips case... and were like, yeah, we get it, this is cool... but I always wondered... what if it was less clear cut? Yikes.
ReplyDeleteYeah. The allergy one, in particular, gets me. Reactions can tip from concerning to serious to FUCK GET THE CRASH CART OMG THEY"RE GONNA DIE in minutes to seconds. If you have an excellent and well equipped Urgent Care, they can stick in a fluid IV or even two, although whether they can run more than temporary lines is doubtful, and give some drugs and call an ambulance, but they may or may not be able to intubate. By the time the ambulance gets there, they may not be able to intubate due to swelling or other reasons. In which case, hope the paramedics are allowed to do a tracheotomy.
ReplyDeleteThis is one reason why I like Urgent Care set ups that are part of an ER. I also like the phone lines, because they can be very helpful. But I will tell you that they are gonna tell you to go to the ER if you have chest pain and shortness of breath because if they assume you are just having a panic attack and then you die of a heart attack, eventually that is gonna be one hell of a lawsuit.
There are so many reasons this is a stupid way to be all about making profits, wasting resources, yadda yadda.
