It's really hard to get to new coping mechanisms when all you've ever been taught/had were it's bad to get angry, disagreeing is bad, arguing is bad, don't talk so loudly, be nice, etc. Iow, suppression.

  2. <3 I feel you. It's also hard to get into a functional relationship with someone who's been taught repression, when your own family's unhealthy coping mechanisms run more along the lines of "scream it out and be done with it, unless of course you feel like silent treatment afterwards".
