Why headlines change on links is beyond me.

Why headlines change on links is beyond me. That is a grossly misleading headline. She apparently got invited to show up and make a speech at the State Department's International Women of Courage Awards. Where the State Department honors women nominated by our various embassies. Guess who wasn't there? The Secretary of State.

Meanwhile, it's fine for her to choose how to be flotus. Not all flotuses were active and involved, or even particularly useful hostesses. I'd really like the news media to stop with nonsense like approval ratings, though. How can you approve or disapprove of how someone is not doing a job?

Also, frankly, her approval ratings are high because you couldn't get a much more stereotypical chauvinist view of a woman walking if you played an episode of Mad Men. She's white, pretty, doesn't say much, stays home, has a child. What's not to disapprove? They don't even mind if she wears a sleeveless dress. Ahem.

She's almost invisible, which is fine if that's what she prefers, but she's an objectively terrible public speaker and there's nothing wrong with saying so if that's part of the job she's supposedly doing. I also have very negative reactions when she makes statements like "Wherever women are diminished, the entire world is diminished with them." Really? Like when some rich narcissist grabs them by the "pussy"? Because while there have also been flotuses who have significantly disagreed with their husbands, iirc, she dismissed this as "boy talk".

So, yeah, whatever.

P.S. Look up International Women of Courage and all you get is headlines about Melania Trump or the first lady. Because that's what that was all about. Stupid media.

  1. Wow, that smile looks pained. About sums it up, don't it.

  2. For a former professional model, she looks awfully uncomfortable in public. I don't know that she is, but she looks like she is. I don't even want to joke about too much botox, which could be a real thing, but I'm not looking to pick on her. The inconsistency, artificiality, and hypocrisy, though, they bother me very much.

  3. Then let Ivanka do it. Or get better coaches and get coached. It's not like she doesn't have the money and resources to get the best possible training to do whatever.

Or get counseling, which she can also afford, and have some long talks with the Donald and his people about limiting and controlling what she's required to do in public. She doesn't have to be a public flotus.

  4. I meant in a rather more broadly applicable sense. (That is, I think it's OrangeyD she's terrified of.)
